Best PG in East Gets Snubbed...What a Joke!

I'm not talking about Rondo either, so don't even start.

Are the Eastern Conference All Star PG's seriously Devin Harris and Jameer Nelson? That's laughable! Mo Williams is the best PG in the East, and has been all season long.

Due to this development, Shaver Sports is going to be leading a boycott to not watch the All Star Game.

However, when the time comes to actually watch the game, we probably still will, we just won't be too entirely happy about it.

Here's hoping Mo Williams takes this snub personal and continues to ball for the duration of the season, en-route to an NBA Title.

One Mo All Star

Shaver Sports first predicted Mo Williams would be an All Star in October, and now the chatter is really heating up. Reason is simple; kid's an All Star folks. Brian Windhorst is now, on board after some debate throughout the season. The outstanding beat reporter was on Reghi's show Wednesday, and said that he thought Mo would be an All Star. Reghi agreed that he should be. Aaron Goldhammer also said on the Really Big Show yesterday that LeBron told the group of reporters after Tuesday's game that Mo Williams better be an All Star, or, if not, 'tell David Stern I'm not going.' Game respects game. But we'll find out for sure today. The All Star rosters should be filled out before the Cavaliers tip-off tonight against Orlando....

Word is that out of Devin Harris, Jameer Nelson, and Mo Williams, one guy is going to get left out. Couple thoughts here...Harris' team stinks, and Nelson is the third best player on his team (Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis). If I had to pick one of these three guys, I would not hesitate with picking Mo 43 times out of 43. Mo is proving to be a legitimate Robin to LBJ's Batman...Sorry Larry.

Mo Williams To Visit Jungle

Mo Williams has certainly made a strong impression on Cavalier fans thus far this season, and he is starting to make his presence known on a national level as well. Mo will be a guest on the Jim Rome show tomorrow (850 WKNR), and I appreciate that. Shouts out to Jason Stewart for dialing up a Cleveland player other than Ryan Garko. Karma. No offense Gark.

I am predicting that after the interview Romey will drop a "that is a really good point guard" on Mo, as well as a "the Cavaliers are out quickly." Look for Mo Williams' All Star consideration to be discussed, as well as the traditional 'will LeBron leave town in two years.' The interview is currently slated for the 2nd hour of the show.

You Heard it Here First

In Terry Pluto's Talkin Sports Column in the PD this past weekend he wrote te following:

"After a discussion with Plain Dealer hoops writer Brian Windhorst, we both came to the same conclusion: If the Cavs continue to win big and Williams continues to play well, why not give the point guard serious All-Star consideration? He holds the team together when James sits. He has been given freedom to call most of the plays by coach Mike Brown. He loves and appreciates playing on a winner, and that enthusiasm rubs off on his teammates. Yes, the numbers are solid: 15.7 points, 4.4 assists and 44 percent shooting, but his impact is far more than statistics."

A few things here with this. Number one, we predicted Mo Williams would be an All Star in early October. Number two, it is not as complicated as Pluto is making it sound. While all the intangibles he listed are correct, the fact is, if you have a good record, your team gets multiple All Stars. Mo Williams is the second best player on a team that is 17-3. That makes his 16 points, and nearly 5 assists, per game All Star caliber numbers. Furthermore, Mo Williams making the All Star team should not be suprising. He averaged 17 points, and 7 assists for the last two seasons, and will get rewarded for his play this season, playing alongside the King.

Glad Bibby Came to Cleveland a Visitor

A lot of the talk over the past few years centered around Mike Bibby being the answer to the Cavaliers Backcourt woes. Count me as a guy happy that trigger never was pulled. I would rather have Mo Williams on my team over Mike Bibby right now - straight up. And, if you want to compare cap dollars, the option to pay Mo and Delonte West what you would have had to pay Bibby is a no-brainer.

During Saturday night's 110-96 win over Atlanta the Cavaliers backcourt of Mo and Delonte scored 42 pts and dished out 9 assists. The Atlanta starting backcourt of Bibby and perennial All Star Joe Johnson combined for 14 and 3. Delonte held JOE JOHNSON to 4 points in 32 minutes Saturday night, something Mike Bibby could never have brought to the table in Cleveland. West also kicked in 19 point 5 assists to go along with Mo Williams' 4 dimes and 23 points. Mike Bibby, on the other hand, scored 10 points, with 1 assist. On the young season, Mo is averaging 17 ppg and Bibby is averaging 14.

Off the court, Bibby is certainly not worth the money he is making this season. His $15.25 million is more than the $12.20 million that Mo Williams and Delonte West are making combined this season (Mo is making $8.35 mil and Delonte $3.85 mil). Credit Danny Ferry for constructing the backcourt they way it is currently comprised, and not succumbing to reaching for a big name guy to satisfy a fanbase...the Cavaliers are better off for it.

Cavaliers Beat Nuggets on TNT

When the Cavaliers are able to get LeBron James the basketball coming off that curl cut deep in the lane its over - he's unstoppable. They got it to him there last night, and the rim had to be in pain when LeBron was done beatin' on it. James went for 28 - 10 - 8 and if he had any Ricky Davis in him, he would have gone 3-D easily.

Equally impressive last night was Mo Williams. It looked like Mo heard Brian Windhorst say that his "numbers would go down this year, and he would not be an All Star" while on the Really Big Show earlier in the afternoon yesterday. Mo came out shooting like somebody stole something, going for 24.

Beyond Mo and LeBron, other guys stepped up to put the game out of reach in the 4th quarter with the King resting, and that hasn't happened all that much before. Daniel Gibson's drive, with his Super Boobie Emblem? shaved into his head, in the 4th quarter was sweet. Equally impressive, was Wally taking off like Billy Hoyle for the slam, in that same 4th quarter stretch - what's up now Sydney Deane?

Chuck Doesn't Like the Starting 5

But he does like the Cavs to win the East...suprising pick in that it is from Sir Charles - a perennial Cleveland hater. Barkley doesn't like the Mo Williams and Delonte West Back Court though, but despite the loss last night, I like it. I think the Willams - West backcourt, with LBJ running the wing, brings not only a speed, and a tempo to the floor in the open court, but also a fluidity in the half court that the Cavs have not had in LBJ's tenure. Chuck made mention of his Cavs to win the East pick during the TNT halftime show, and also mentioned that he thought Pavlovic or Sczerbiak should be in the starting line-up over Delonte West. He said that Wally or Sasha would enable the Cavs to spread the floor, and open up more driving lanes for LeBron. Honestly, that is what I thought as well when the Cavs traded for Mo, but after watching last night, I am on the side of Coach Mike Brown in this debate. Wally is a standstill shooter, and Sasha's jumpshot is suspect at best. I like the ability of Mo and Delonte to not only hit from the perimeter, but to also attack the hard close out off the dribble, in attack of the basket. The more the defense moves, the more driving lanes for the King.

Mo Will Be an All Star for Cavaliers

I am predicting that Mo Williams will be an All Star this season for the Cavaliers. Three Reasons Below:

1. Numbers: He will put up All Star Numbers. He will score over 15 points a game and be near 10 dimes as well. I predict 17.9 pts, and 8.4 assists per game...Mark that down.

2. The Cavs Will be a Good Team: Maybe not great at the All Star Break, but they will be a good. While the Cavs might not be in 1st or 2nd in the East at the break, they will be in 3rd, 4th or 5th for sure. Besides that, voters are going to see Mo Williams regularly. With LBJ, the Cavs are going to be on National TV more than the NHL, which is light years away from Sports Time Milwaukee Every Night.

3. All the best PGs are in the West: Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Deron Williams, Baron Davis, Allen Iverson, Brandon Roy, Jay Kidd...they will all be splitting votes every which way in the Western Conference. Mo Williams will have to beat out Chauncey Billups, Gilbert Arenas, TJ Ford, Jose Calderon, Rajon Rando, Andre Miller, and Steph Ma----- just kidding. Its certainly possible, and I say it happens.

If LBJ Likes the Cavaliers' Chances, So Do I

I have liked the trade for Mo Williams since it happened, but I have always wondered if LeBron liked it. From what we have heard and seen out of LBJ and the Cavs this week, it looks like he does. For me, its not even about being worried he's gonna leave, even though I'd cry if he did. Its more about figuring out what pieces fit best around the King, because for as great as he is, there has never been another superstar that plays quite like he plays. There is no model to go off of. He is not just a scoring wing, not just a post up big, not just a ball handler, he is all of that, and more. Whether Danny Ferry know what those pieces are, time will tell. Mo seems like he could be a piece that fits. In my mind, so does Delonte. LBJ seems to agree, because he is talking title on day one, and that is a good thing to be talking about. Because if he thinks they can win it, so do I. Click here for LBJ's interview on media day. The line-up he referred to there of a Delonte, Mo Williams, LBJ, Big Ben and Andy could be an explosive unit that would be fun to watch get up and down the floor at the Q this year.

One Mo Piece For Cleveland

On the podium in Boston after the Cavs lost game 7, LeBron said the Cavs were a player and a half away from being where they needed to be. I will let you do the the math, but adding Mo Williams for Joe Smith and Damon Jones put the Cavs ONE full player away from being a championship team in the opinion of this blogger. Mo Williams can play, he can create a shot for himself, and create a shot for his teammates. In Milwaukee, they called it the Mo Zone when he heats up...and when he heats up, he can shoot the thing. He did drop 37 and 13 on Cleveland this past season. It does not appear to be a fluke either, 17 and 6 dimes last year, and 17 the year before is definetely solid. While the move does not put Cleveland over the top, and is not an end all be all move, you cannot argue that the team is 'not improved' with the addition of Mo Williams - because they are an absolutely better team right now, than they were before the trade. Listening to the Kenny Roda show on KNR tonight after the story broke, it seemed that the consensus of Cleveland Fans agreed. If you were to also look at it from the Pistons standpoint as a barometer of the trade, you will find in chat rooms that Detroit fans are not happy with the Bucks, essentially giving Mo Williams to the Cavs for basically nothing - no offense Joe Smith. I also like this deal from Danny Ferry's perspective, because it shows that he is trying to make the team better right now. With Mo signed for the next five years, his contract may not be one that Cleveland will want when his is 29 and 30 and making 9 or 10 mill, but he is a player that Cleveland should want today, and that is why I am glad Ferry pulled the trigger. I would also guess, that this deal did come as a result of Micheal Redd talks...Ferry probably could have made this deal months ago, and may have been continuing dialogs with the Bucks in hopes of landing Redd...when that possibility looked like it had no chance, he made the next best move for the immediate future, without giving up a key bargaining chip at the deadline like Wally. Hopefully at the deadline, Ferry can make one Mo move, and land that last piece that could put Cleveland over the top.
